No Stream Week (Week of 3-27-2017)

Ninjustin here, and I’ve got terrible news! I’m going to be on vacation for next week. I forget what the vacation’s about, something about getting on a giant boat with a bunch of other people to sail to some islands. Anyway, I thought I should let you folks know since Twitter is awfully impermanent when it comes to announcing things, and I wouldn’t want any regulars to show up to the stream (or lack thereof) and wonder what’s going on.

I also wanted to give a big thank-you to everyone who’s been watching my streams. I’ve been streaming regularly for the better part of a year now (had to check the calendar myself to confirm it) and it’s been a very fulfilling activity. Talking about games, while playing games, and interacting directly in real-time with the people interested in your words is incredibly engaging, and I’m happy to continue doing it.

I’m considering posting here regularly to give updates on what games I’m streaming, possibly even set specific games for specific dates each week so you can look ahead of time and see if you can watch me stream the game you’re interested in. Please let me know if you’d like me to do this!

If you’re curious, lately I’ve been mostly streaming World of Warcraft, For Honor, Elite: Dangerous, Hearthstone, WASTED, and just recently I started a playthrough of Skyrim: Special Edition with several mods that give it a survivalist edge.

Here’s a link to my channel, and as always, thanks for reading and for watching. See you in about a week.

Stream Update: New Channel & Schedule

Yay, the site’s up this month! Ninjustin here, and I’ve got some news.

Before I start, I really want to thank all the viewers (regular and otherwise) I’ve had on my stream. The past three months of consistent 3-times-a-week streaming have been really fun! I’ve streamed complete playthroughs of Arkham City, Shovel Knight and Doom 4, as well as streamed plenty of partial playthroughs, regular fun-time shenanigans and one-offs. Additionally, I’ve gradually refined my channel to have a chat-bot, a solid visual layout, and toys I regularly show off for the viewers!

Also, I got this rad balloon ninja commission pic from @sakurabutt!

I have no intentions of quitting the scene, but I’m making a few changes moving forward. First of all, I’m switching my stream to a new channel: https://www.twitch.tv/ninjustinn. I used to go by Wooogles on Twitch, but that caused a bit of confusion as people who know me from this site or Twitter would call me Ninjustin, but people who discovered me on Twitch would call me Woogles. Not a big deal, but I feel it’d be better in the long term if I stick to one name across all platforms. You know, #branding and all that. So if you follow me on Twitch, please follow the new channel so you can continue to see when I’m live.

Secondly, due to a change in work schedule (and my own desire to add a bit more variety to my streaming times), I’m adjusting my stream schedule. Namely, I won’t be streaming at the same time every day. This might seem a bit confusing compared to what was before, but there are reasons for it.

So, the new schedule is as follows:

  • Monday: 8:30-10:00PM
  • Wednesday: 1:00-3:00PM
  • Thursday: 8:30-10:00PM
  • Saturday/Sunday: Wildcard!

Bear in mind this is all North American Central time. Since I now have Wednesdays off, I want to do at least one stream a week in the early afternoon so that my international viewers (at least two of whom I know exist!!) can feasibly be awake to watch it. I’d like to set a consistent time for weekend streaming, but weekends are always a bit topsy-turvy.

So, quick review: Streaming has been super fun, which is why I’ll be continuing. Please follow the new channel, and come watch me stream whenever you’re able. And, you know, willing. That too. Don’t come if you don’t want.

And if you’re someone who would like to view my stream regularly but are not available at any of the alloted times, let me know when you would like to watch me stream! I can see if I’d be able to fit it in my schedule. I don’t have market researchers to tell me when to stream, so you’ll have to suffice.

Also, Overwatch is awesome.

Discord Server & Stream Schedule (Indefinite Until Further Notice)

You can’t accuse us of being behind the times, because now we have our very own Discord server! If you look at the sidebar on your right you’ll now see a Discord widget that lets you see online members and connect with a button click.

Discord banner

So what’s Discord, you ask? Well now I see it’s YOU who’s behind the times! But anyway, Discord is essentially a text-and-voice-chat service where you can participate in multiple channels, make your own channel, and/or integrate your channel with your sponsored Twitch or Youtube channel. It’s very intuitive, it has customizable notifications, you don’t have to mess with IP addresses or port forwarding to voice chat, and all-in-all it feels like the next step forward for PC gaming chat.

Also, I now have it set up to notify all server members (unless you opt out) whenever I’m streaming on my Twitch channel that you all follow! You follow it, right?

stream HA HA GET IT?

Speaking of streaming, now that I’m switching from a weird janky ten-hour-days, four-day-weeks work schedule to a more standard Monday-to-Friday affair, I’m assigning myself a regular Twitch stream schedule that I’ll be using indefinitely until I post again to change it. The plan is that I’ll be streaming Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00 to 10:00 PM Central time, and whenever I’m available and up to it on Saturday and/or Sunday. This will start on June 20th (this upcoming Monday) and I’m going to gauge how much I can handle streaming 3 days a week. I’d love to upgrade to 5 days a week, but, baby steps.

So mark your calendars, and hop on the Discord server to be notified and to engage. And to anyone who stopped by for my streams the past two weeks, thanks! And sorry I didn’t stream on Tuesday or Wednesday. Internet problems.

Ninjustin’s Stream Schedule: June 6-18, 2016

Ninjustin here! Sorry you haven’t heard from me in awhile. I got a job. Full-time. Yeah, I’m like a grown-up now, right? But I want to get back into streaming on my Twitch channel, and I was planning on making this next week my return. After all, it’s been about a month since I finished training, so I think that’s a pretty good time to get accustomed to my new commitment so I can get back into my old commitment!

And then I got a schedule change. The change doesn’t apply for another two weeks, and I’m actually happy to get it changed, but it means the schedule I set now will only apply until then. But I don’t want to wait anymore, so I’m setting a schedule now and in two weeks I’ll change it.

Here’s the schedule from June 6th to June 18th:

  • Monday – 8:00PM until probably 10:00PM.
  • Tuesday – 2:00PM until probably 4:00PM.
  • Wednesday: 2:00PM until probably 4:00PM.
  • Friday: 8:00PM until probably 10:00PM.
  • Saturday: Wildcard. I’ll stream when I feel like it. Maybe all day! Maybe not at all. Follow me on Twitter for a heads-up.

Bear in mind the times listed are all in the North American Central time zone. You can also follow my Twitch channel if you want notifications. Yeah, I already linked it. I’m linking it again. Fuck you.

So what am I going to play? Well, lately I’ve been playing a lot of Overwatch and DOOM 4. Yeah, fuck you again, I’m calling it DOOM 4 because that’s what it is, and it’s awesome. I’m thinking I’ll start a new playthrough for the stream. I’ll probably try hard mode, since I’ve been playing normal mode on my own. I’d also like to stream Shovel Knight, Deus Ex (the original), Batman: Arkham City, Ninja Pizza Girl, Rayman Origins and/or Legends, and maybe stream blind runs of some nice-looking games I’ve gotten like Apotheon, Hyper Light Drifter and Alien Isolation.

It’s quite a list. I’m open to suggestions in the comments!

Volgarr Final Level Stream Thursday

Ninjustin here. Dude, were you there for the Volgarr stream?! (If not, here’s the archived broadcast. I plan to upload it to Youtube.) It was awesome! Until the moment it became terrible. I was playing through the game, occasionally fucking up but mostly kicking ass, and then right when I got to the secret final final world that you can only reach by coasting through the hard-mode versions of all the previous levels, the stream crashed. That’s not a joke. That’s actually what happened. And for twenty minutes afterward I tried to revive the stream. My internet connection was fine, but the stream refused to happen, so I’m inclined to believe Twitch was having issues. Maybe Twitch just couldn’t handle the epic secret final world on display. I don’t really know what happened, but either way, it was incredibly disappointing.

I’m not giving up, though. This Thursday (March 10th) I’m going to stream again, and this time I’m going to play up to the secret final level beforehand. I don’t want to make you all watch me play through the vast majority of the game again. If I start making that regular on my channel I’d probably be doing speedrun attempts.

Expect me to be on my channel at 3:30 CST. Here’s the time-zone conversion page for it. It shouldn’t take long — maybe 10 to 20 minutes. I may stream a celebratory Helldive afterward.

Fate doesn’t seem to want this to happen, but if that be the case, by Odin’s beard, I will fight fate itself.

Volgarr Reschedule: Sunday March 6th

Well, this is embarrassing. My first week of scheduling streams in advance and I already have to reschedule.

A few days ago I scheduled a Ninja Gaiden stream for Tuesday (tomorrow, or today, depending on where you live) and a Volgarr the Viking stream for Thursday, failing to remember that I’ve had a very important personal matter scheduled for something like a month in advance on that day. The Ninja Gaiden stream is still on, but I’m going to have to move the Volgarr stream to Sunday at 9:00PM UTC. Here’s the time zone converter page for it.

Sorry, folks. I’m still figuring this out as I go. If you want something to hold you over, here’s the footage of my SUPERHOT stream from February 28th!

Next Week’s Streams: Ninja Gaiden & Volgarr Spectacular!

UPDATE: I had to reschedule the Volgarr stream to Sunday, click here for details.

Ninjustin here, and next Thursday (March 3rd) I’m doing something that I’ve been meaning to do for a long time. I’m going to stream a best-ending-run of Volgarr the Viking.

I never wrote about Volgarr and I only streamed it once last year, but it’s a 2014 game I discovered in 2015 that calls back to the old days of challenging action-sidescrollers like Castlevania, Zelda 2 and Super Ghouls & Ghosts, while improving vastly upon them. I genuinely call it hard-but-fair, which is a label I don’t ascribe to every game — Dark Souls can suck it — and I played the hell out of it last year, to the point where not only did I beat the whole notoriously difficult thing, I achieved the secret best ending, which requires jumping through some serious hoops.

I wanted to either stream myself achieving the task or record a video of it, but I never bothered last year. Now that I’m getting into the regular stream scene, I figured it’s as good a time as any. If you’d like to watch me kick that game’s ass, I’m going to stream at 8:00PM UTC. Here is a time zone converter for the event.  EDIT: Here’s the correct time zone converter page.

Also, on Tuesday March 1st I’m going to stream Ninja Gaiden for the NES, which I’ve been doing regularly since I started streaming. The game is frustratingly hard and often blatantly unfair, but I like how it feels, and I’ve made it a personal goal to beat it so I can up my ninja level. (Ninja level is a thing, in case you were wondering.) Same time, 8:00PM UTC. Here you go.

Hope to see you folks on the channel! On Tuesday I will die a lot, but on Thursday I will conquer.

Ninjustin Streams On Twitch Now!

Hey everybody, Ninjustin here. Huh. Does everything look a bit different or is it just me? Oh yeah, this is my first time posting since we un-crashed the site! Sorry for my inactivity. Stuff’s been happening in my life. Also depression and anxiety. You know how it goes.

Anyway, in order to make regular content again, and because I like streaming games and don’t know why I stopped: I’m now streaming games on my personal Twitch channel, Wooogles! If you check my channel’s profile you can watch past broadcasts, of which I’ve streamed 1001 Spikes, Helldivers, and ye olde Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania.

I do plan to get back to making written content, but in the meantime, I’ll be streaming several times a week, in the early afternoon or evening (American time). I don’t have a set schedule for streaming yet, but I’ll be working on that. Follow my channel if you want to be notified of when I’m streaming. If I have any stream plans that I deem “important,” I’ll try to announce the stream time and date here in advance, so keep an eye out!

Also, if you haven’t heard, Helldivers is an awesome co-op game on PS4 and PC. Play that shit, and put [NinBlu] in front of your Steam name if you want to represent.

Talk of the Ninja: Super Mario Maker Celebrates and Facilitates Creativity

Well, I went ahead and did it. I bought a current-gen console. Enjoy those three hundred dollars, Nintendo! I only bought it for Super Mario Maker, and let me tell you, it was worth every penny.

fuck this image

Mario Maker was released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., the shot heard ’round the world. I know that’s the case because my Mario Maker Wii U Bundle came with a 30th anniversary Mario Amiibo (seen in the bottom right corner of the image above) who looks like he came straight out of Minecraft. It kind of fascinates me that instead of just making some sort of Mario Greatest Hits game, they made a game that challenges and encourages fans to make Mario levels themselves. That’s what Mario Maker is, and it has few bells and whistles to add on. It’s a comprehensive and intuitive level editor with tools, objects and enemies from several different Mario games, and an online sharing system for levels made by players from around the world.
