Ranneko Plays Finishing Up Two Games – Channel Update 2018-01-05

In a rare occurance this week I finished up 2 games in the same update period. Both Firewatch and Emily is Away Too are fairly short experiences, focused not on spacial challenges but on telling a story and providing a more emotional experience. Unfortunately, neither game seems to have captured any attention from my subscribers. They don’t even have the normal New Game bump for the start of the series. I’m not sure why.

Is it just a quiet time on the channel?

Are these games neither popular or recent enough to attract attention?

Are they simply not the kinds of games my viewers are interested in?

Unfortunately with a small, quiet viewership it is very difficult to get any feedback to draw conclusions from. Which is kind of frustrating because getting feedback would make it easier to pick new games to play. In order to delay a little bit, this Sunday I am going to experiment with a bit more Heat Signature content. But I would love to get game suggestions from you humble reader. Both for longer games in the Mon/Wed/Fri slot and shorter games for Sundays.

The last week’s releases were:

Saturday and Thursday: Pillars of Ranternity
Sunday: Ran Is Away Too
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Ranwatch
Tuesday: Heat Signature Hot Tips / Ranneko’s Tuesday Tips

We are making pretty good progress in Caed Nua now, this week we make it to level 10, that marks the 2/3rds point. I should probably start pushing the main quest again soon, not sure how many acts there are in the game, but we haven’t finished Act 2 yet.

As we finish the year we finish up Emily is Away too. I found it kind of frustrating because Evelyn treats any contradiction between what you tell her and Emily as a betrayal and there is no way to clear it up. The only defense you can provide is that you lied to the other one or that it did not count for what ever reason. You can’t explain difference emphasises. Like for example the desire to travel AND have a family.

And so our story ends. Henry finds the truth only to have it burnt by a giant bushfire. It was a pretty game with a very unusual premise and it wrapped itself up pretty nicely. Unfortunately there seems to have been literally no interest in this Let’s Play, so I am not sure it is worth discussing further.

I found this out completely by accident, you can use sidewinders in space. It is very much an edge case use as generally once you are out of the ship you quickly travel out of the range of even extreme sidewinders, but it is useful to adjusting approaches to ships and if you can time it it can prevent an unexpected spacewalk.

  1. When I’m one of your more vocal viewers, it’s a sign that your fanbase is pretty bloody quiet. You’re doing a fine job, though.

Rather than just listing games, I feel it’d be more useful to list the types of games I enjoy to watch in LPs.

    1) I’ve played it and love it, but there’s multiple ways to play, and I want to see which build/route/strategy other people use. Dark Souls, Hitman: The Newest One, and modded Minecraft would fall into this category.

    2) I don’t want to play it myself, as it’s too intense, but I appreciate seeing it played well. Cuphead and Resident Evil VII are recent examples.

    3) This doesn’t really apply to your channel, but if there’s a channel with multiple people whose banter I always enjoy, I’ll watch most of the stuff they put out.

    1. Thanks for the feedback, have you watched any of the stuff I recorded with Syfro? I should get a chance to do some more recording with them later.

      1. Hmm, I’ve not watched your vids with Syfro, but I see that some of them were Pit People, and that is on my personal list of cool games to watch. Guess I have a little catching up to do. :)

EDIT – just noticed that a Shadowrun: HK playthrough has begun. That’ll be fun to watch.
