The Ransistance wraps up prematurely this week. I was having a great time, but unfortunately, some interaction between mods and my install has resulted in significant instability. I have recorded a couple more episodes but then I encountered a landed UFO mission that always crashes XCOM 2 when I finish up the mission. I spent way too much time trying to either fix the initial interaction or at least avoid the crash trigger, and I found a way to partially avoid the initial crash, but even loading an old save and playing normally will have the game crash after 15 minutes or so. I could restart the campaign, but with War of the Chosen only a couple of months away, I figure I should way for that to release and start a campaign then. If you have signed up to be a soldier don’t worry I will export all of the characters so they will show up in the next run!
As a result, from next week Ranneko Plays Massive Chalice will run three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Hopefully, that will take us roughly to the release of War of the Chosen and then that will run 3 days a week.
The current schedule is:
Saturday: Syfro Saturdays – Ranneko and Syfro Play Thimbleweed Park
Sundays: Ranowned Explorers: International Society
Monday and Friday: The Ransistance
Tuesday and Thursday: Torment: Tides of Ranmenera
Wednesday: Ranneko Plays Massive Chalice
Syfro Saturdays – Ranneko and Syfro Play Thimbleweed Park
This is the first flashback scene, Thimbleweed Park seems to really love them, but we don’t. They basically mean that we have to abandon the puzzles that we are currently working on and suddenly work on what the game has decided is most important. This is especially tiresome when the flashbacks don’t seem to be delivering important information, or at least information that couldn’t have been conveyed at least as well through a few lines of dialogue.
Ranowned Explorers: International Society
We got off to a bit of a false start with this DLC, maybe we should have a little bit more of a focused approach and get on with the business of shaming sheep until they go away.
After finishing Shen’s Last Gift, we of course decide to follow up with another tough mission, the blacksite. This was probably not the best decision, especially given the UFO that is chasing us right now…
Torment: Tides of Ranmenera
I have been looking forward to seeing the memorials ever since the full release. The approach that InXile discussed when they had last talked about the Necropolis addressed most of the criticism I had for the approach taken by Pillars of Eternity. They are in a location that encourages exploration, is integrated into the storyline and the setting itself resists out of character memorials breaking immersion. What did catch me of guard is how much the one I wrote affected me. I am proud of it and I miss you Nick.
Ranneko Plays Massive Chalice
Through marriage counselling we managed to get one of the best possible personality traits in the game. We managed to make a couple of our heroes Patriotic. This is a kind of super-trait, it boosts speed, accuracy and evasion. Our patriotic heroes move faster, strike more often and are themselves harder to hit. It is only available through events, but is heritable through the normal mechanisms, as a personality trait this means that it can be passed through to all new heroes via our standard. I am going to be trying my hardest to keep this trait around.
